Look Back and Beyond - Fool Time and Circomedia 25th Anniversary Celebrations 31st March - 3rd April 2011

Fool Time 25th Anniversary - "Look Back and Beyond"

Welcome to the celebrations surrounding the 25th anniversary of the opening of the first circus school in Britain – Fool Time, which opened its doors, appropriately, on April fools day 1986.

The event is to celebrate the vibrancy of Bristol's current circus culture as well as to celebrate the dedication and achievements of all those brave non-conformists and eccentrics who created it.

Unlike in the acting or music professions, circus is not known by its star performers; the demands on the body make it a relatively short-lived profession. However, it is known through its extraordinary and unforgettable events that expand people's perception of what is possible. So although, after quarter of a century, many are no longer performing and their performances and companies half-forgotten, a trace has been left in the local culture that newcomers identify with or absorb without being aware of its roots. These roots give a firm foundation for future developments and so in looking forward we honour the labours of the  past and in looking back we see the seeds of what lies beyond.
