Clown: Directing the Play

The clown has a wonder for the world, an outlook so simple that everything becomes a game. It is this simplicity that becomes the starting point for play. Using improvisation, rhythm and devising participants will learn about timing, style and how to create comic routines. The course will include the red nose, clown videos and an opportunity to direct the play.

Advanced 6 November - 11 December
Clown to Performance

An advanced clown course aimed at participants who are serious about being stupid. Topics covered will include developing style, working the audience, directing,

object theatre and mime. Through play and improvisation we will work towards a short show to an invited audience.

After a glittering career in menswear Fraser Hooper gave it all up to follow the red nose. 16 years on his unique brand of award-winning physical comedy has delighted thousands of audiences wherever he has played. He is a much sought after clown tutor and has taught at circus schools and theatre festivals worldwide and is currently teaching at The Circus Space, London.

"He teases his giggling audience, and the more he takes the micky the more they laugh. A most charismatic clown."
Ronnie Haydon, Time Out London.

"Exactly what is so hilarious about Fraser Hooper is hard to pin down. Basically he doesn't really do anything. His silent clown act is so endearing, a series of gangly grapevine dances somehow become the funniest thing you'd ever seen. I cried more than when I stubbed my toe at Primary school" Angela Moriarty, The Nelson Mail New Zealand.
