Teacher Training Course

One Year Part-Time Teacher Training Course

Bim TeachingSeptember 2007

The aims of the course are to give students understanding and experience of fundamental learning principles and teaching methods as well as the application of these to the teaching of circus. It will also give students a nationally recognised teaching qualification.  It is suitable for those who have training and experience in circus skills and who wish to teach professionally, or those who are already teaching and wish to update their knowledge of current teaching practice. The course has two components:

1) City & Guilds 7407 Level 4 Certificate in Further Education for Teaching
This is a generic teaching qualification enabling successful students to teach in Further Education.  The 7407 certificate prepares students in the wider teaching methods and principles applicable not just to the arts but to all subjects. Anybody wishing to teach part time in Further Education for the first time will be required to have this certificate (or its equivalent) under current legislation.  Teaching Practice placements are provided on Circomedia’s other long-term courses.

2) Circomedia Teacher Training Course
This is a circus specific course which, alongside training for over 16s, also covers the 10-16 age range in community and outreach settings.  Uniquely, this component provides opportunities to work within a circus training context. It is comprised of both theoretical understanding and practical application of learning principles and teaching methods for fitness, acrobatics, aerial, equilibristic and manipulation skills. Placements are provided in a variety of professional, community and outreach settings.

The course is delivered through:
