CirqOn The Seam CirqOn The Seam is comprised of Alice Watson and Océane Sunniva Peillet. We provided a residency opportunity to them throughout 2016. Here's how Oceane Peillet found the experience: "Circomedia actively supports artist development. During the past year and a half, they have been supporting us through the process of setting up our company and making our first show. After a lot of hard work, we finally got an Arts Council grant last May, on our third try, supported by Circomedia. During our first week of the actual residency we did a lot of theatrical exercises, writing exercises, getting to know our 'beast' and regular check-ins as we were emotionally quite on the edge already from having suddenly so much happening and so much to handle. We practised a lot the levels of emotions, levels of tensions, contact exercises etc We completed time writing exercises "I am here because...", "for me the show is about...", and a lot of imagination ones. We took half an hour for warm up in the morning, 5 minutes for a mini meditation and grounding and the time we needed for a check-in (10 minutes on average), an hour and 15 minutes for lunch, a lot of pee breaks and walk and fresh air breaks when needed. Towards the end of the week, we did our first share with a Youth Network. We had been in touch with them to explore relationship with our audience, how to reach hard to reach audiences and offering workshops. We did a few contact dance and physical theatre exercises on trust and collaboration, such as guiding someone who has their eyes closed with different body parts, or a raise, in pairs, with one trying to run from one side of the room to the other and the second person pushing them on the hips to try stop them from making it, and also some modified fun Grandmother's Foot Step. Alice and I then performed a guided (by our director Gwen Hales) improvisation using the experimental exercises and bits of choreography practised during the residency for an informal work in progress showing and a feedback session with them."
