Professional Diploma (Level 5)
September 2016 - July 2017
The one year (level 5) course follows on from the one year level 4 course and is essentially year two of the Foundation Degree. This course is designed for students who already possess high- level circus- theatre performance skills (for example they have already completed a reputable course of training or have significant professional experience) and are keen to expand their repertoire, broaden their range of skills and styles and learn how to create work for different markets and settings.
Students will study the wider contexts in which their skills sit, understanding the diversity of the sector and how to promote their work within that market.
Over the year students will create a broad portfolio of work whilst simultaneously concentrating on a specific project of their own devising which they will develop across both semesters. In addition to creating and performing, students will learn how to sell their work professionally and manage themselves as performers, as well as looking into marketing, legal, financial/funding, logistical and insurance aspects of producing and staging work.
Students will also learn the basic elements of teacher training, giving them a grounding in the principles required for delivering workshops within their chosen field.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible for me to take this course if I have not COMPLETED the Professional Diploma (level 4) course?
It is very rare that we accept students on to level 5 course without them having completed the one year course at level 4 but it has happened in the past. You will have to have had the equivalent training or prove that you can work at this higher level through you audition and application.
Is accommodation available at the campus?
A small number of single rooms is available on the Kingswood campus but they are owned and managed by the Kingswood Foundation. Most students live off campus, often taking over bed-sitters, flats or shared houses from students who have just graduated. We use email-outs to share information about vacancies and can also supply accommodation help-sheets. Please note, though, that we are unable to vet properties or landlords and strongly advise you to make your own checks before signing any rental agreements. Generally, it is fairly straight forward to find short term lets in Bristol.
Can I take a part time job while studying?
Circomedia courses are physically and mentally demanding and as the typical school day starts at 8.45am and rarely ends before 6pm, it may be over-challenging to take on paid work as well. But there is no veto on combining a job and study. Students who make good progress may even get paid work with Circomedia itself. We run a separate entertainments agency which is often asked to provide performers or workshop leaders for business, educational, social or charity events.
