Circomedia is a leading school for contemporary circus and physical theatre. We run a range of formal courses, including BTEC, Foundation Degree, Degree and Masters as well as a fantastic range of recreational classes.  Alongside this, we show professional circus and dance performances, deliver a community outreach programme and income generating events.

Our aim for the Work Experience Programme is to give Year 10 and 11 learners a broad taste of working behind the scenes within an arts organisation. The skills you will experience are relevant across the arts sector and include:

  • Finding out about the work of Circomedia: the Youth Circus, our venues, our teaching and our events
  • Learning about staff roles involved in running training and performance venue, and shadowing staff from marketing, technical, teaching and events departments
  • Helping to deliver a workshop to young people
  • Using what you have learned to deliver a team challenge based on producing an event

You will use and develop a range of skills including:

  • Problem solving and creative thinking
  • Working as member of a team
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Basic circus skills

This year the programme will take place between Monday 26th and Friday 30th June 2017. We are sorry that we cannot facilitate placements at other times. If your schools’ Work Experience is a different week, do talk to your school to see if there is some flexibility.

Application process

We have a simple application process.  The application form is for filling in by the student themselves.  We will then select up to 6 young people to join us for the week.  We will confirm all placements by the end of May 2017.
