About the Show
Four and a half billion years ago, out of a swirling mass of stars, dust and gasses our planet Earth erupted into existence. This cosmic performance was the first of many momentous events that led to the evolution of life on earth. Today amongst the many diverse inhabitants of planet Earth are ‘Queers’; a rare and exotic species that have adapted to live in almost every climate and environment…And within this fascinating subfaction of society exists an even scarcer variety, ‘Circus Queers’ – those who have integrated gender bending with body bending, who stray from the straight and narrow, who walk the tightrope (wink) between hiding in plain sight and becoming literal fireworks, lighting the way for others who choose to follow.
This work was co-lead and directed by Laura Murphy and Matty May, two queer, neurodivergent artists and writers. Laura is an accomplished circus performer while Matty May has never accomplished a rolly polly. Together they are passionate about shining a spotlight on queer artists, stories, and bodies on stage; a vital, joyful and rebellious act in the current political landscape.
