Circus Show Creation 2026

Make a show in a week!

Students will work with Maddie McGowan, aerialist, theatre maker, creative educator with over twenty years experience of working creatively with young people. Students will be able to work on their chosen piece of circus kit and will also contribute to the devising and group performances.

Rebels, Misfits & Tricksters: A Week of Circus Theatre Creation

Over five days, we’ll dive into folklore from around the world. Stories of rebels, misfits, tricksters and truthtellers, to see what they reveal about courage, creativity and community today.

Through circus theatre training, we’ll explore aerial, acrobatics, physical theatre, characterisation, ensemble scenes; we may draw on creative writing, singing and puppetry.

Each day will mix high-energy physical exploration with focused devising sessions, building a new performance together from the ground up. Participants will learn how to transform movement, voice and story into expressive, collaborative theatre, discovering how ancient tales can spark fresh ideas about who we are and how we act in the world.

Parents, friends and family can watch the result in a relaxed showing at the end of the week.
