A week of circus theatre creation for ages 11–18
REBELS, MISFITS & TRICKSTERS
Over five days, your child will train aerial, acrobatics and physical theatre with professional circus artist Maddie McGowan, help devise a brand-new show inspired by folklore’s great rule-breakers, and share the result with parents, friends and family at a relaxed showing at the end of the week. No experience needed, just curiosity and a bit of courage.

MEET THE TUTOR: MADDIE MCGOWAN
Maddie has spent over twenty years working creatively with young people, combining circus training with devised theatre. Across the week, students work on their own chosen piece of circus kit while contributing to the group’s devising and performance, so every young person gets an individual skill and a shared story.
THE STORY BEHIND THE SHOW
Over five days, the group dives into folklore from around the world (stories of rebels, misfits, tricksters and truth-tellers) and asks what they still reveal about courage, creativity and community today.
Through circus theatre training, students explore aerial, acrobatics, physical theatre, characterisation and ensemble scene work with creative writing, singing or puppetry woven in wherever the group takes it.
Each day will mix high energy physical exploration with focused devising sessions, building a new performance together from the ground up. Participants will learn how to transform movement, voice and story into expressive, collaborative theatre, discovering how ancient tales can spark fresh ideas about who we are and how we act in the world.
