The Decadent Rabbit has a mission to create Cabaret that is innovative and entertaining, and above all – never boring. Founded in 2016 by artistic directors Alex Hofgartner and Rod Laver, they create living, contemporary Cabaret shows, with live music and theatrical ensemble elements, for adult audiences that aim to be uniquely ambitious, astonishing, intimate and inclusive.
Alex and Rod have built a reputation for exciting, funny, astonishing and outrageous performances. Already both successful artists in the circus and cabaret world, their combined artistic flare and unique performance skills resulted in the birth of their stunning duo act that quickly became one of the most talked about performances on the cabaret scene.
They were drawn to collaborating with other artists with not only exceptional skills, but also a desire to use their extraordinary abilities in further exciting ways. These ideas began to form into the company’s manifesto for creating their own brand of cabaret shows. A show that allowed the audience to see the artists in their solo glory as well as theatrical ensemble performances that are surprising, beautiful, funny and most importantly, unforgettable.
Previous awards include: The Edinburgh Festival, The Paris Music Hall Festival and the World Juggling Championship. Company performance highlights include: appearances with musical cabaret stars Meow Meow and Amanda Palmer and a night of variety at the legendary Wintergarten Theatre in Berlin.
Despite national and international success, The Decadent Rabbit remains committed to developing cabaret in Bristol and the South West. Previous shows include the sell out Cabaret Paradiso and ‘Made In Bristol’ which showcased a cast of up and coming alongside established, legendary cabaret, circus and variety artists.
The genre of Cabaret has grown from an alternative underbelly art form and its roots continue to expand. The Decadent Rabbit are proud to be part of this delightful scene that allows artists to share their stories and personal experiences, through positive self expression, in a way that is authentic to them. With each show, more positivity and creativity is being added to the community through Cabaret.
