Supported Artists – Jen & LK

Meet the artists:
Jen & LK are swinging trapeze partners who
couldn’t be more different but are making it work. Both are graduates of Circomedia with an enthusiasm for playful exploration and advanced technical training. One a dancer, the other a clown, they use their contrasting personalities to dive into the nuances of trust and communication whilst also managing to poke fun at each other on stage. They will be joined by fellow Circomedia alumn and swinging trapeze specialist Ruby Burgess for this project.

How are they using the space?
Working in partnership with Circomedia allows for experimentation with circus disciplines that struggle to have the space, rigging and technical knowledge for ambitious exploration. With their support we plan to develop a 3-women swinging trapeze show that pushes the boundaries of the discipline technically but also places emphasis on the human by exploring themes of risk, trust and female autonomy.

When can you see their work?

Jen, LK & Ruby will present a work in progress sharing of their three-women swinging trapeze show with experimental rigging at Circomedia on Saturday 13 July 2024.

The show will intertwine the agency of female bodies when women base and lunge each other within a traditionally heavily gendered circus discipline.

Their show follows three performers questioning themselves, doubting themselves and slowly growing in confidence. It tests the limits of risk and its complex relationship with trust. Amidst our internal conflicts, can we each trust in our own abilities?

Two women swing together on a high trapeze. One is doing a somersault in the air.
